Donato: “Bebeto did not flinch, not for him to throw that penalty”

Last update November 25, 2019 by Javier Argudo

It is one of the plays most remembered by all Spanish football fans but especially by the fans of the Depor. The famous penalty missed by Djukic against Valencia (that for many it should have launched Bebeto) which cost the League to the Galician team and gave it to the FC Barcelona.

It happened on the last day of the season 1993-1994 and it is a moment that the fans of the club will never forget. Riazor. Everything turned upside down with the signaling of the maximum penalty in the last minute of the match.

DJUKIC OR BABY PENALTY?

If the home team scored it was champion, if it failed, he was Barça. All eyes on the team's top star, Bebeto, but to everyone's surprise that grabs the ball is Djukic, failing.

For many, even today, Brazilian chickened out and did not dare to throw the penalty leaving the responsibility to Djukic. But nevertheless, that penalty was not his to Bebeto And we do not say it, it says Donato, which later became champion with the blue and white shirt scoring one of the goals against Espanyol, in an interview Sports world tells what happened:

“Bebeto no se escondió. no penalties chutaba. Even he trained. He had failed two against Aston Villa and Oviedo and wanted no penalty. Only rehearsed faults. We djukic practice this week, Fran and I. Valencia goalkeeper, González, He stopped one day before throwing himself against Valladolid on your right. And I tried and tried all week to the left. But Arsenio replaced me eleven minutes from the end by Alfredo. And when we whistled the penalty I did not stop to say: “Por favor, to the left. Please, por la izquierda”. He tried to convey my thoughts to Djukic. But he threw down the right and goalkeeper stopped him. I knew very bad because it is a great person, uno de los mejores futbolistas de la historia del Depor y sólo se le recuerda por eso”.
